  1. Brief History of the Department:

The Department of Chemistry, Government Degree College of Uravakonda, in Anantapuramu District established in 1980 to make higher education accessible to the diversified social groups hailing from poor economic background in the region.


The Department of Chemistry started its journey along with the birth of the College in 1991.The Department of Chemistry has so far completed 31 years of time serving basically as a font of knowledge to the rustic rural young in the vicinity.


As Chemistry has become language of opportunities, the department is using available Lab Instruments to improve practical and research development among the students. The department not only delivers curriculum knowledge but also develops philanthropic spirit. Apart from its regular activities, the department has been helping administration in organizing all important events, academic meets, curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Vision:

          To enable the students to acquire Chemistry competence in order to make them use of quality Chemistry  as a means of creatingconducive human environment imbued with vibrant inter personal boding, common understanding leading to global harmony.

Mission:

          The department of chemistry always endeavors to transform the students into the rational human beings with an inquisitiveand argumentative bent of mind through chemistry teaching. It also envisions the healthy and positive cultural growth of the students for better social, political and cultural environment in the country.

Goals:

  1. To impart chemistry skills to the stake holders.

  2. To equip the students with manners, etiquettes and life skills.

  3. To enable the students to make use of chemistry as tool for employment.

  4. To create interest among the students regarding chemistry as fine art.

  5. To inculcate aesthetic sense and human values among the student.                                                                                                                                         

3. Best and Innovative Practices:

1. The faculty of the department stretch their innovative approach to train the students who hail from different backgrounds.

2. Communicative language teaching is implemented. The learners are involved in different activities like role play, debate and group discussions.

3. Target based chemistry teaching is practised. Students are encouraged to do presentation such as seminars and PPt to improve the competence of learners in chemistry learning.

4. Extension activities are conducted effectively.

5. Study material is supplied at the beginning of the semester.

6. Additional classes on grammar are taken to train the students to write competitive exams.

7. CSP are given to create social awareness and research aptitude.

8. Objective type of questions are given to write PG entrance exams.

9. Special care is taken on slow learners by conducting remedial classes.

10. Students centric method is followed to create an active class room.

11. Weekly one hour is allotted for pleasure reading.

  3. Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

  4. The duration of the course will be 45 days.
